Captain Derrick Bray is the experienced and passionate guide behind Blue Light Charters, bringing more than 20 years of hands-on fishing knowledge to the waters of Charleston, South Carolina, and Coastal Florida. With a calm, approachable style and a strong grasp of local tides, structures, and seasonal fish patterns, he offers guests more than just a day on the water—he offers genuine insight into the region’s diverse fishery. His guiding philosophy is built on patience, precision, and a deep respect for the local ecosystem.
Raised on Florida’s Gulf Coast and now guiding in Charleston’s productive inshore and nearshore zones, Captain Derrick has spent a lifetime mastering how fish behave in different conditions. Whether it's a cool winter tide perfect for Sheepshead or a summer run full of Speckled Trout and Redfish, he reads the water with accuracy that only decades of experience can deliver. Guests often describe him as both professional and personable—someone who makes learning easy and every cast feel exciting, regardless of your experience level.
What sets Captain Derrick apart is his ability to personalize each charter. He takes the time to understand his guests’ goals, whether that’s helping a child catch their first fish or putting experienced anglers on the bite for targeted species. His relaxed style and depth of knowledge create an atmosphere that’s both educational and genuinely enjoyable. Many guests return season after season, drawn by his consistency, reliability, and passion for showing others the best of Charleston’s fishing.
